Goethe room

A HOMAGE TO OUR MOST FAMOUS GUEST

The most famous guest of Auerbachs Keller, "Goethe," is honored with the gothic-vaulted "Goethe Cellar." In both "Faust" and his letters, he frequently refers to the familiar inn. It will likely remain an eternal mystery as to which was his regular spot. Therefore, today, every guest can imagine themselves sitting in that place.

Several pictures and documents hanging on the walls currently remind us of Goethe and other important visitors to Auerbachs Keller.

The semicircular paintings painted in 1625 by Andreas Bretschneider are among the most significant exhibition pieces in the "Goethe room" regarding urban and cultural history. The former landlord, Johann Vetzer, needed proof that the famous popular book story originated in Auerbach's Cellar. That is why he had the scene of the student's fistfight and the merry Schlampamp reenacted, dating it back 100 years.

THE GOETHE ROOM CAN ONLY BE BOOKED AS PART OF A MENU!
