History comes alive here.

The four oldest, lovingly restored dining rooms from the 16th to the 19th century are referred to as Historical Wine Taverns. In addition to the Goethe room, the Luther room, and the Alt-Leipzig room, the famous infamous barrel cellar is also included.

The Historical Wine Taverns are only open exclusively as part of our sightseeing programs and for special events with a minimum of 20 people, such as weddings, birthdays, or company celebrations. We would be happy to provide you with individual offers including buffet or menu suggestions. A prior menu agreement is required for groups of 20 people or more, and a buffet can be offered for groups of 25 people or more.

Already in 1525, students were carousing in the wine cellar and the legend of Dr. Faustus was circulating, which served as an inspiration for young Goethe, 250 years later, for his Faust material. The valuable wall and panel paintings bring stories and history to life in numerous episodes!
